1. Introduction and Definitions

The Learning & Skills Office Limited ("laso.ac") is committed to providing a secure, transparent and professional service for its Members Centres and its Users.

The following policies govern the use of our website, Membership Services, Learning and Assessment Platform, training programmes and associated services.

Users acknowledge and undertake to comply with these Terms & Conditions. In these Terms & Conditions:

  • "laso.ac" means The Learning & Skills Office
  • "Member centre" means the member centre with an active membership of The Exams Office who have created an account with The Learning & Skills Office. This means an education provider, school, college, academy trust, or any centre with an active entitlement to access laso.ac services
  • "User" means an individual authorised by a Member Centre to access the Platform
  • "Centre Administrator" means the individual designated by a Member Centre to administer access rights and manage User accounts
  • "Platform" means the laso.ac learning, assessment and professional development platform, website, applications and associated services
  • "Services" means all content, assessments, learning resources, certifications, professional standards frameworks, communications and Platform functionality provided by laso.ac

2. Acceptance of Terms

This policy applies to all Member Centres subscribing to the laso.ac learning and assessment Platform. Key principles include:

  • laso.ac grants a non-exclusive and non-transferable right to access the Platform
  • All learning materials and Platform content remain the property of laso.ac or its licensors
  • Member data remains owned by the Member Centre
  • Access may be suspended for unlawful activity, misuse or security concerns
  • If a Member Centre's membership to The Exams Office expires and is not renewed
  • laso.ac liability is limited as set out in the agreement

3. Permitted Use and Restrictions

This policy applies to all individual users of the Platform.

Users may:

  • Access learning materials and complete assessments
  • Participate in continuing professional development (CPD) activities
  • Track and complete the Exams Manager/Officer Professional Standards
  • Receive certificates where eligible

Users must not:

  • Share login credentials or allow unauthorised third parties access
  • Sell, distribute or commercially exploit laso.ac content
  • Use AI tools, scripts or automated tools to scrape or extract content
  • Reverse engineer the Platform or manipulate assessments and certificates

Certificates issued through the platform belong to the subscribing Member Centre unless otherwise agreed in writing.

4. Eligibility and Accounts

laso.ac services and content are only accessible solely through a valid User account. A separate User account must be created for each individual associated with a Member Centre and must not be shared or transferred between individuals.

Users are responsible for keeping passwords secure. Compromised credentials must be updated immediately. Member Centres are responsible for ensuring User compliance and removing accounts for staff no longer at the centre.

User accounts will be closed automatically if the Member Centre's membership of laso.ac or The Exams Office expires.

5. Free Membership and Access Rights

Access to laso.ac free accounts is provided exclusively to active member centres of The Exams Office. Up to five Users per member centre (e.g., Senior Leader responsible for exams management at the centre and the centre Exams Managers/Officers) are permitted to have free access to CPD learning, assessment modules, and certification.

Membership may include:

  • website resources
  • Platform access
  • written lessons, video lessons and other learning resources
  • assessments and certificates
  • the Exams Manager/Officer Professional Standards tracking and certification
  • member communications

6. Platform Licence

Senior leaders or exams managers/officers from active Member Centres may register for a free account providing complete and accurate information.

laso.ac reserves the right to accept or reject or terminate registrations containing misleading information or inactive memberships.

7. Centre Administrator Responsibilities

Each member centre allocation includes one Centre Administrator and up to four Account Administrators. Additional Platform Users may be subject to subscription charges.

Single centre-memberships cover only the registering centre. For Multi-Academy Trusts (MATs), a separate membership is required for each member centre unless otherwise specified in writing.

Member Centres should ensure that the membership meets operational centre requirements before registration.

All memberships are for one year and renewable annually.

8. Acceptable Use Policy

Users must not engage in hacking, distribute malware, scrape website content, employ bots, conduct denial-of-service attacks, interfere with assessment integrity or upload unlawful content on to the Platform.

9. Learning Content, Assessments and Regulatory Disclaimers

laso.ac seeks to provide high-quality content but provides no warranty or guarantee regarding the availability or suitability or accuracy of free services and content. laso.ac reserves the right to modify, substitute or suspend free content at any time without prior notice.

Regulatory Compliance Disclaimer:

Platform content summarises JCQ regulatory requirements. The content provided is for training guidance only. Senior leaders and exams office personnel must familiarise themselves with the entire contents of any JCQ guidance/documents which are referenced within the Platform.

laso.ac does not guarantee complete regulatory compliance and each Member Centre remains solely responsible for meeting JCQ's mandatory obligations.

Non-Regulatory Content Disclaimer:

Depending on the nature of the non-regulatory content, statements may represent the opinion of the author rather than a statement of fact and may not necessarily reflect laso.ac opinion.

10. Intellectual Property

All website and Platform training modules, assessments and frameworks are owned by laso.ac or its licensors. Unauthorised copying, reproduction ore redistribution is strictly prohibited.

11. Artificial Intelligence and Automated Systems Prohibition

Automated scraping, AI/LLM model training, data harvesting, or automated analysis of Platform content is strictly prohibited. Any unauthorised use will result in immediate suspension of account access and potential legal action for infringement of intellectual property rights.

12. Data Protection, Privacy and Cookies

laso.ac acts data controller and data processor of personal information in accordance with UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).

Detailed data roles, sub-processor management, and data subject rights are governed by the laso.ac Data Protection, Privacy and Cookie Policy.

13. Confidentiality

All parties agree to maintain the confidentiality of non-public registration data and restricted platform content, except where disclosure is required by law, court order, or regulatory body (including Freedom of Information Act 2000 requirements).

14. Service Level and Third-Party Links

laso.ac endeavours to maintain uninterrupted access to the Platform but reserves the right to restrict or suspend services for maintenance and without notice.

laso.ac may provide links to external sites or content or refer to third party publications. Any link or reference is not an endorsement or guarantee of that content, and laso.ac accepts no responsibility for any third-party site, content or publication.

15. Legal Disclaimer

The Website, Platform, Learning Resources, Assessments, Guidance Materials and Exams Officer Professional Standards Framework are provided solely for educational and professional development purposes.

Content is intended to support learning and good practice but does not constitute legal advice, regulatory advice or employment advice. Reliance on content is at the User's and Member Centre's sole risk. Member Centres remain solely responsible for their own legal, regulatory, governance and compliance obligations and reliance on any content is entirely at the User's and Member Centre's own risk.

16. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, laso.ac excludes all implied warranties, conditions and representations relating to the Platform, website, services and content.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for:

  • death or personal injury caused by negligence
  • fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
  • any liability that cannot legally be excluded under the laws of England and Wales

Subject to the above, laso.ac shall not be liable for:

  • indirect or consequential loss
  • loss of revenue
  • loss of profits
  • loss of anticipated savings
  • loss of goodwill
  • loss of opportunity
  • loss arising from business interruption
  • loss arising from reliance on platform content, assessments or certificates

Subject to statutory exceptions, total aggregate liability arising under these Terms shall not exceed £100.

17. Suspension and Termination

laso.ac may suspend or terminate account access immediately upon breach of these Terms, unlawful activity, or expiration of The Exams Office membership. Member Centres may terminate access by providing written notice to close accounts.

18. Force Majeure

laso.ac shall not be liable for failure or delay in performance caused by events beyond its reasonable control, including cyberattacks, severe hosting/network outages, telecommunication failures, or statutory actions.

19. General Legal Provisions

  • Severability: If any provision is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect
  • Entire Agreement: These Terms constitute the full understanding between laso.ac and Member Centres regarding Platform use
  • No Waiver: Failure or delay by laso.ac to enforce any right does not constitute a waiver of that right
  • Assignment: Member Centres may not assign or transfer rights without prior written consent

20. Revision to Terms

laso.ac may revise these Terms from time to time by posting updated Terms on the website. Continued use of the Platform constitutes acceptance of revised Terms.
